The strong, positive and caring ethos which underpins every aspect of life at Hutchesons’ starts from the moment children join the primary school when they become part of the diverse ‘Hutchie Family’.
We operate a relaxed, welcoming open-door policy for parents and staff work hard to ensure the children feel happy and secure.
Mutual respect is a core value and the House system creates a tangible sense of community across all year groups through House families, activity days and monthly House assemblies.
Other ways in which we actively promote this sense of belonging include;

Children’s rights are at the heart of everything we do. As a Rights Respecting School, we are proud to hold the Gold RRSA accreditation, the highest accreditation for RRSA. Through the collective commitment of our Primary pupils, teachers and parents, they have been working towards this, after achieving Bronze in 2020, Silver in 2022 and finally Gold in 2025. The award by UNICEF recognises schools that embed the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) at the heart of their ethos, policies, and curriculum.
We ensure that the values of respect, equality and participation underpin our whole school community. Children’s rights are embedded across our daily practice, showing our dedication to helping every child feel valued, heard and empowered to reach their full potential. We are proud of our strong pupil voice, which is central to life at the Primary School. From our Pupil Council, led by our Primary House Captains, to our Hutchie Huddles, where every child has the opportunity to share their views, contribute ideas, and make a difference within our school and beyond.
