World Lacrosse Box Championships

Good luck to our Assistant Head of Stuart House and Mathematics Teacher, Matthew Hill, who is flying out to New York to take part in the 2024 World Lacrosse Box Championships.

Matthew has not only been selected to play for the Scotland team but also as an alternate captain. The team will be aiming to progress through the competition after going against the Czech Republic, Jamaica, and Chinese Taipei in the first pool.

Matthew started playing lacrosse in 2010 when his teacher at school started up a Lacrosse Club and went on to play for Scotland Seniors in 2012, playing in various main tournaments such as the World and European Championships. In 2018, Matthew transferred to the box style of lacrosse, which became his favourite version of the game to play.

Around his teaching and pastoral work, Matthew trains every week with a mix of Strength and Conditioning work along with lacrosse-specific training, followed by matches at the weekend. Matthew also runs the Senior Girls Lacrosse Club for S3-S6 every Tuesday after school, with the hope to one day have a club for every age, for both boys and girls. Therefore, if any pupils are interested in trying out the sport – get in touch!

Matthew said:

“I am very excited to play in this year’s World Championship. I am also deeply honoured to be named as one of the alternate captains for Scotland and would like to thank the school for supporting me in attending this event and I look forward to sharing my experience!”

We can’t wait to hear how you get on – wishing you and the rest of the Scotland team the best of luck.
