Sky Studios Trip

The Hutchie Film Unit recently visited Sky Studios to learn the art of making a news programme to a tight deadline.

The group, which included S1 to S5 pupils and two staff, were given a tour of the studios and then split into teams to produce their own news bulletin on the topic of Ocean Plastics.

The pupils had spent several weeks researching their story in advance and on the day they took on the roles of script writers, producers, directors and editors as well as on-screen presenters and reporters.

They were divided into three teams and each was responsible for a separate part of the programme.

The teams used state-of-the-art studio equipment to film and edit their pieces – but they had just over an hour to complete the task with a clock ticking down in every studio.

At the end the teams were able to view their whole news programme in the Sky Academy cinema.

They learned as much about time management as they did about film-making and they definitely want to go back to do it again next year
