Amy, Erin, Kirsty, Prerana, Sana and Zoya used recycled materials to produce their eye-catching badges, collecting bottle tops and cereal boxes from staff and local bars and cafes. They have been working hard to produce 100 badges for external orders to date and aim to make 170 in total by the end of the project. A lunchtime stall will be set up to allow pupils to purchase a badge, and 20% of profits will go back into the school charity and 20% going to the representing badge charities.
There are seven different designs to choose from, each one representing a chosen charity close to the pupils’ interests and passions.
• Global Melting – For Cool Earth Action
• Cage the Cruelty – Animal Free Research UK
• Love-ender – Stonewall
• Feminism Strikes Again – Period Poverty
• Home Safe Home – Refuweegee
• Bee Gone, Bullies – The Diana Award
• Love All Skin – Black Minds Matter
The design will differ per charity, with some of the bottle caps being hammered down by hand using a hammer and mould to create a more rounded finish. The imagery was designed and then printed onto sticker sheets, which is then glued down with PVA to secure, with a final coat of spray varnish to protect them. The brooch clasp is glued onto the back of the bottle cap to attach to the presentation card which has been hand printed onto recycled card from cereal boxes using a lino which Kirsty designed and made herself.
