Chairman to the Board of Governors, John MacLeod, welcomed our audience and reflected on the school year, the hard work of our pupils and the drive and commitment of our staff.
Mike Martin gave his final speech as Rector. After 16 years of service to Hutchie, joining us as Senior Depute, he has dedicated his final year to leading our school with a commitment and compassion that has strengthened our community.
Daniel O. (S6) on clarinet, accompanied by Music Teacher, Ronan Corkey on piano, performed the delightful “Clarinettomania” by Michelle Mangani. Guest of Honour Vivienne MacLaren (C1992), Chairperson of Scottish Women’s Football, gave an insightful speech into her career and time after Hutchie, before presenting the prizes for:
Primary Dux, The McKie Cup, was awarded to Priya (P7), and Senior Girls’ Dux medal, The Mary McMillan Kerr Prize and Gold Medal, was awarded to Rebecca C., while Senior Boys’ Dux medal, The Rector’s Prize and 1829 Silver Medal, was jointly awarded to Daniel O. and Dhruv S., with Proxime Accessit to the Girls’ Dux , The Helen McMillan Prize, awarded to Aoife O.
As with Hutchie tradition, Beth S., gave the last speech of the ceremony and consequently her final speech as Head Girl, where she reflected on her own time at school, before giving thanks on behalf of all pupils. As his final duty as Head Boy, Henry A. lead “Three Cheers for the School” to mark the end of the ceremony.
As our Chairman and his guests left the stage, Director of Performing Arts, Tim Rhodes, on trumpet and Ronan Corkey, on piano lead a surprise rendition of “It’s not unusual” in honour and farewell for our Rector. We wish him well in his retirement.
It was a wonderful occasion that celebrated our pupils and marked the end of another successful school year. Congratulations to all award winners.
