Prize Giving 2023

Our Annual Prize Giving ceremony took place in June, marking the end of another school year.

As parents, relatives and carers, took their seats in The Helen and Walter Ross Assembly Hall, our organist, Ms Katie Wylie along with Mr Tim Rhodes on trumpet, signalled the start of the ceremony.

Chairman to the Board of Governors, Alistair Marr, welcomed our audience before introducing Rector, Colin Gambles, followed by Guest of Honour, Vice Chairman to the Board of Governors, John MacLeod. All who reflected on the school year, the difficult times, as well as the successes.

Daniel (S5) performed a beautiful rendition of “The Carnival of Venice” by Paganini, before Senior Depute for Alumni and Development, Jim McDougall, took to the stage one last time to present our pupils with their prizes. After 14years, Mr McDougall is retiring, and although bittersweet, he took great delight in inviting pupils to join him on stage to collect their prizes.

As pupil names were called out, applause filled the assembly hall as winners were announced for:

  • Physical Education
  • Public Speaking
  • Special Prizes for the Junior School
  • Special Prizes for Form I and Form II
  • Form III Subject Prizes
  • Donated & Endowed Prizes for Form III
  • Form IV Subject Prizes
  • Form V Subject Prizes
  • School Prizes, Donated & Endowed Prizes
  • Dux Awards Subject Prizes

Primary Dux was awarded to Annika (P7), and Senior Girls’ Dux medal was awarded to Eve G., while Senior Boys’ Dux medal was jointly awarded to Jamie D. and Gregor P., with Proxime Accessit to the Girls’ Dux awarded to Esther L.

Head Girl, Jessica, reflected on her own time at Hutchie, before giving a heartfelt thanks on behalf of all pupils, to their teachers and to all support staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes. Head Boy, Jamie, signalled the end of the ceremony with an enthusiastic “Three Cheers for the School”.

It was a joyous occasion that celebrated our pupils on another successful school year. Congratulations to all, thank you for your continued commitment and effort, and farewell to our S6 leavers.
