To win this prestigious bursary, Ailsa had to go through a rigorous application process in German. As part of the programme Ailsa stayed with a host family, attended school and experienced a range of authentic German activities. During their time, Ailsa also visited the local towns and the capital of Thuringia, and Wartburg, famous for being where Martin Luther translated the Old Testament.
Ailsa said:
“The trip went above and beyond my expectations. My German has improved immensely, my vocabulary has expanded, and I am more confident in my speaking. The trip was one of the best experiences of my life and if you are wanting to improve your German, then an exchange is one of the best things you can do, so seize the opportunity.”
Ailsa spent time at the local school and recapped basic grammar such as articles and adjectival agreement, before moving onto Subjunctive 1&2 and the passive voice. There was also plenty of down time at the local swimming pool, along with board games and badminton in the garden.
The opportunity was incredibly beneficial to Ailsa as they undertake Advanced Higher German this session. Well done Ailsa, your Modern Languages Teachers were thrilled to support you in pursuing this adventure.
