Our Secondary school campus is located in the leafy suburb of Pollokshields in the Southside of Glasgow and is well served by public transport. The main school building opened in the 1960s and was originally Hutchesons’ Boys School.

The purpose-built accommodation has been further developed over the years and a science block, drama building, Sports complex and Fotheringay Centre now complement the original school building.

Why Hutchesons’ Grammar School?

With a strong academic reputation, our highly-experienced teachers pride themselves on instilling a desire to achieve and our pupils quickly learn the history of Hutchesons’, allowing them to develop a real sense of belonging to the large Hutchesons’ community.

We believe there are several aspects of the Hutchesons’ experience that separate us from other local schools.

We offer one of the most comprehensive, individual and varied curriculums in the country.
We offer small class sizes across the school, and with an enviably low pupil/teacher ratio our staff get to know all their pupils well.
We care and nurture our pupils to ensure their emotional and physical well-being.
The Arts at Hutchesons’ are well represented and many of our pupils have gone on to world leading higher education institutions.

Our dedicated P.E. staff ensure sport and fitness opportunities for all pupils. In the last year our pupils have represented Scotland in Hockey, Rowing, Karate, football and Squash.

The Career Development and Higher Education department offers unrivaled support to pupils as they navigate their way through subject choice and the higher education application process.

Core Values underpin our curriculum

With an unashamedly academic focus, the Curriculum at Hutchesons’ is built around our six core values.

Curiosity

Curiosity is fed not only through the impressive array of subjects on offer, but also through the emphasis on questioning, discovery and research that follows instruction in science, in the humanities, in languages and in literature.

Compassion

Compassion is nurtured not only through PSHE and the work of the charity committee but through the strength of our international education programme.

Creativity

Creativity blossoms not only because of the challenge to make new connections in formal lessons, but through the extremely high standards set year after year in music, in the visual arts and in drama.

Independence, Honesty, Resilience.

Through the unique way we encourage pupils through the senior phase to design their own balance of depth and breadth in what and how they learn, each pupil is encouraged to be more authentically themselves.

The values on which our curriculum is based are designed to produce flourishing, confident and engaged young adults ready to contribute to something bigger.
